Thank you very much. We`ll be expecting it.
The "Blanket Brigade" at Hillside Communities turned out its 2,000th baby blanket for needy newborns this month - and kept on going, Polyester Blankets racking up a total of 2,022 crocheted and knitted items cotton baby blanket since the residents got started.
All the items go to Jacquard Carpets Willamette Valley Medical Center's birthing center, where they are given to newborns and their mothers. Nurses determine which families need the free layette sets, which include newborn diapers, clothing and products such as baby wipes, in addition to baby blankets.
Hillside's Blanket Brigade has been contributing to the layette project since before 1993, according to Eleanor Plamondon, who joined when she moved to Hillside Manor that year. Somehow, the first notebook of records went missing, so the current count may be short - the actual number may be higher than 2,022.
The Blanket Brigade gets together on the last Monday of each month in the manor's activity room. Like Plamondon, many members of the group have been participating steadily for many years.
