      CUSTOMERS vote with their feet when they buy at Cecil and Sue Norton’s family-owned Jacquard Carpets business in Wickford.

      “We’re at the less busy end of the high street, but people are happy to walk a bit further to come here,” says Cecil, known as Cess to hundreds of customers and fellow retailers in Wickford and beyond. Printing Carpets

      “They’ll walk that bit further for us in a way they wouldn’t do to buy, say, an ice cream or a newspaper.”

      A short walk along the high street is a suitable start to doing business with Cess and Sue, whose business, Maplefords, deals with Ispahan carpets and other types of floor covering.

      The high street location in Wickford Broadway works well for Maplefords, which depends on repeat business.

      “People find their way here,” says Cess. The real testimony is customers keep walking back.
