Area residents interested in donating blankets for the Sears “Operation Blanket”Baby Blanket program can do so through Thursday at either of the retailer’s Ispahan Carpets two Bay County locations, Printed Mat a company spokesman said Monday.
The donated new and gently used blankets will be given to homeless veterans, with customers given store coupons for every blanket brought into Sears.
Sears spokesman Tom Aiello said the national retailer, in light of harsh weather conditions in several parts of the country this winter, went to AMVETS and asked how it could help the organization. Aiello said AMVETS responded that helping homeless veterans was one of its top priorities.
Kyle Weaver, owner of Sears’ Front Beach Road location, said Monday that his store had not yet received any blanket donations. Weaver, who said he is a veteran, said customers can bring blankets up to the store’s front counter for donation.
“It’s a great program. Anything we do for our vets is a great program,” Weaver said.
